Shazam 2 Reportedly Bringing Back Djimon Hounsou’s Wizard

Shazam 2 Updates: Djimon Hounsou will is set to return as the ancient wizard in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The original film starts with Hounsou’s Shazam who is the last of a council of wizards after the previous champion killed everyone else.

The ancient wizard was waiting for centuries at the Rock of Eternity to pass on his legacy and  his powers to a champion has a pure of heart. When Dr. Thaddeus Sivana creates a portal to the and unleashes the Seven Deadly Sins by acquiring the Eye of Sin, Hounsou’s Shazam is eager to find his champion.

Teenager Billy Baton is chosen by the wizard to become the champion. Once Billy says the word “Shazam,” he is transformed into a superhero played by Zach Levi.

Hounsou’s Shazam turns to dust when he passes his powers onto Billy, and the actor seem to be never seen on screen after that. The character’s death is not confirmed, but his absence is noticeable and thus leading audiences to believe the character’s demise.

Shazam 2: Djimon Hounsou’s Wizard

According to reports Hounsou will be returning for his role as the ancient wizard for the sequel. The news hasn’t been confirmed but Hounsou is reportedly returning for the sequel along with Levi, Angel, and the director would be David F. Sandberg.

Bringing back a character who seemed to have been presumed dead is difficult, but DCEU have seemed to have done it before  when Henry Cavill’s Superman was dead at the end of 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But he was quickly bring back to life in Justice League.

It has also been reported that Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu are set to play this duo of villainous sisters Hespera and Kalypso in the sequel, so they may have something to do with the ancient wizard resurrection. Another way to bring back a character that is dead is through flashback.

In addition to his role Housou has also provided the voice to King Ricou in the film Aquaman. The actor has also had a role in MCU by appearing as Korath in Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and Captain Marvel. More news on Housou’s role is expected to be come as filming continues this month and the release date is supposedly on June 2, 2023.
