The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4: Nick & June

Earlier in the series, Nick was only a driver for the Waterford while June was a handmaid. Even back then he couldn’t do nothing when June was being abused and mistreated.

Also, when June was distressed during pregnancy bearing the child of Nicholes he was only able to voice his worries for June which the commander disregarded.

Later in season 3, Nick is promoted to the rank of Commander and he eventually plans to save June with the help of Commander Lawrence. In the council, they proposed a military cease fire on Gilead’s borders to encourage trade with other nations and to improve the relationship with other nations.

Although this was accepted but the council decided to bomb anti-Guilead insurgent hotspots first. Nick came to know that June was in Chicago and would soon be blown away.

Nick had no other option but to agree to it hoping that June would be safe from the airstrikes just like everytime she’s saved from dangers. He’s even given the duty of supervising the mission by the council. This lands him in a dilemma.

All that Nick can ever do is keep trying to protect her from dangers from his position as a strong Commander. Other than that he can’t do anything for the helpless June whom he loves but can’t save.

Even he’s helpless, everyone in that particular system had to answer to their superiors and there were even punishments for someone failing to do so. So, he thought it’d be better for him to stay alive and keep protecting June from all kinds of dangers from his powerful position even though he couldn’t truly save her.
