TikTok has started working with multiple brands in Europe to list and sell products directly through the app. The shopping interface is currently limited to select testers, with it eventually expanding to all users. Douyin, the China-only version of TikTok, pulled in over $26 billion in e-commerce transactions in its first year.
TikTok lets companies set up store profiles for their products on Instagram. Users can shop through the profiles and make purchases. The company won’t be responsible for actual sales, but companies can use the feature to take orders. TikTok could use part of the Discover page to showcase available products. It could also make a dedicated shopping page like Instagram has. The company could sell earbuds through its shopping account on TikTok.
It’s unclear when TikTok plans on launching its in-app shopping experience for everyone. It’s likely eager to get it out the door as quickly as possible.
