Outlander Season 6: Richard Rankin’s take on ‘change’ to Roger ‘Not the man he was’

Outlander Season 6 Updates: Richard Rankin discusses Roger’s “shift” and how he’s “not the guy he used to be.”

In the upcoming sixth season of Outlander, viewers can expect to see Roger Mackenzie (Richard Rankin) take on a new persona than in previous seasons as he tries to adjust to life in the 18th century North America.

Richard, the actor, spoke about how his character has been through a lot and now comes off as a little “colder.” Could this shift in his personality have an effect on his relationship with Brianna (Sophie Skelton)?

“There have been some big successes for Roger in season five,” Richard said.

“Actually, his journey after season four has been really impacting, and I believe it has changed him as an individual.

“Since he was hanging, I believe in episode eight, he hasn’t been the same man; he’s changed.”

“This time has changed him; he’s been affected by his experience; he’s been affected by the abuse, trauma, and PTSD.

“Everything has happened to him, what has happened to Brianna, what has happened to his family, all of these things have made him a little bit tougher, maybe a little bit colder in some ways.”

“I don’t believe what he does in episode 12 would have been if all of that hadn’t happened before,” the actor added.

“When he discovers Claire has taken a life, he kills a man. “Roger proves what he means when he says he would do something for his family.

“It strikes him really hard as he takes a life in episode 12 and he has a lot to process. “It’s another big step in a path that is just the progression of this character, which has become a lot of fun to see this character evolve over time.”

Outlander Season 6: Richard Rankin’s take on ‘change’ to Roger ‘Not the man he was’

Since the shooting was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, Richard is back on set with co-star Sophie. Last year, the actor said he was “desperate” to get back on set when speaking at Paley Fest in Los Angeles.

To be honest, he told fans, “I just can’t wait to get out of the door.”

“I’m itching to get back on set. It’ll be wonderful. For eg, endless, copious quantities of coffee.

“And, to be honest, I don’t know what happens in book six because I haven’t read it yet.

“I believe this will be the first season where we don’t know what will happen.”

Though Richard has remained tight-lipped about Roger and Brianna’s plot, writer Maril Davies has revealed some information.

The pair “has their own adventure,” she said, and “something exciting and new happens with them.”

Is it possible they’ll learn they’re expecting their second child? There’s a chance the series will continue in the footsteps of the Outlander books, with Roger becoming a priest.
