Spiral: From the Book of Saw’s opening scene is, to say the least, brutal

Saw franchise’s ninth installment, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, will release on the 14th of May this year. The American horror film, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, has had much success over the years. To build anticipation around the movie, the team has released its opening scene for the fans. And if you’re someone who is weak at heart and can’t stand violence and gore, we suggest you prepare yourself well for it.

The scene opens with Detective Marv Boswick (Dan Petronijevic) investigating an underground tunnel wherein he gets caught in a macabre trap set up by a masked person. With his hands and tongue-tied up on a train track, the detective has to do all he can to save his life before the train arrives.

After the movie’s production was postponed owing to the Covid 19 pandemic, the movie will finally get a theatrical release this year. For many fans, the movie is much more than just the newest installment in the series. Being the closest to a reboot the series has had so far, it pays respect to the characters from the original movie while also taking them in a new direction.

Along with Petronijevic, the film also stars Chris Rock (as Detective Zeke Banks), Max Minghella (as Det. William Schneck), and Samuel L. Jackson (as Marcus Banks).

The film, written by Peter Goldfinger (Jigsaw, Piranha 3D) and Josh Stolberg, has a backdrop of Jigsaw lore. Even though it is not yet confirmed, the masked tormentor, wearing the iconic pig mask, might be a direct disciple of Jigsaw. Or not. Only time will tell.

Whoever they are, the opening scene has surely shaken the audience and given us a taste of what is to come. All that’s left to do, is to wait for a couple more days.
