Ubisoft bringing Free-to-play games alongside AAA

According to a recent Ubisoft earnings call reveals that the developer- publisher has taken a note on free-to-play high-end games than it has in previous years and is focused on the project.

A recent Ubisoft earnings call has revealed that the developers are more focused on launching games that are free-to-play, Ubisoft is well known for many different gaming franchises such as Far Cry, Assasin’s Creed, and several Tom Clancy series. It has grown to become one of the major gaming companies in recent years and they would not want to miss out on free-to-play games.

However, Ubisoft has never been tested in the free-to-play market (aside from Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege). Games like Fortnite have proven this to be the method that pays the bills. Recent reports suggest that Fortnite when made available free on just about every gaming platform, pulled a revenue of $9billion in 2018 and 2019. Even the bestselling video games in history have come nowhere near achieving such feet in terms of sales.

Ubisoft bringing Free-to-play games alongside AAA

With this idea and knowledge, it looks like Ubisoft wants a piece of the pie too. On Tuesday VGC, reported on a Ubisoft earnings call that contained plenty of details from CFO Fredrick Duget about the studio’s plan to put out free-to-play gaming experiences, Ubisoft has acknowledged the idea and is in plans to put more resources towards it. Now the plan is to “ make sure (high-end free-to-play games are) a strong contributor in the long term for the overall expansion of the brand” Duget also went on to express the company’s interest in making such games. This means that fans can look forward to more affordable experiences from their favorite Ubisoft IPs.

It was believed that Ubisoft would have turned a corner and it would be now focused on free-to-play high-end games stepping away from the usual titles, in spite of the success and customer loyalty these projects have earned so far, But soon confusion was cleared by a Senior Analyst of Ubisoft assuring the fans that the free-to-play ventures would be a supplementary part of the project, this indicated that fans will be greeted every year with Assasin’s Creed games and other AAA titles, This news broke after the announcement of Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, a free-to-play game that serves as a way to expand Ubisoft’s The Divison series. Ubisoft thus are making progress and development and is hopeful that they will break into the free-to-play market with a game of their own aiming at a wider audience.
