Army of the Dead Producers Explain Alpha Zombies

Army of the Dead Updates: The producers have now explained the film’s zombie hierarchy and how the frightening and horrifying zombies work.

The film which stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighofer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tig Notaro, Raul Castillo, Huma Qureshi and Garret Dillahunt follows A group of mercenaries plot a heist on a Las Vegas casino during a zombie outbreak. Army of the Dead is set to release on May 21, on Netflix and in selected theaters.

The history of the genres of zombie movies is massive. Army of the dead seems to be of the action comedy criteria, with a bit of heist, ofcourse.

Army of the Dead Alpha Zombies

In an interview with Screen Rant, Army of the Dead’s producers talked about its zombie hierarchy and the terrifying alpha zombie leading the horde.  The producer further added that they have two kinds of zombies in the movie, the traditional shamblers, for the ones who like shamblers and then the alphas.

They also stated that the alphas are the key to the mythical zombie lore. They also discussed about the “Zombie Bible” which enlists the origin and the functioning of the different kinds of zombies present in the film.

Netflix has already requested for more Army of the Dead content, which includes an animated series focusing on the early days of the zombie pandemic. There’s also a prequel to the film, Army of the Thieves, which stars Matthias Schweighofer reprising his character Ludwig Dieter from the first film. If the film turns out to be a success, then it can be a start of the massive zombie franchise.

Zombie content which was once a striking force in the TV and film industry has been submissive in the past years. The Walking Dead though continues to gain immense popularity and audience across multiple series, and some other props have kept the zombie flame burning.

Depending on how the alpha zombies are projected in the story of the Army of Dead, they could be seen as the major antagonists for the future projects as well, providing an engrossing twist to the further plots.
