Why Did Schitt’s Creek Come To An End After Season 6?

Published by

Schitt’s Creek Season 6 Updates: The Canadian comedy Schitt’s Creek said its goodbyes at the end of season 6, but the network didn’t actually terminate it. The show was produced by father-son pair Dan and Eugene Levy and broadcast on CBC Television in Canada, but it premiered on Pop TV in the United States.

The Levy brothers portrayed a household forced to relocate to a podunk town after blowing their riches in the film, including Catherine O’Hara and Annie Murphy. Despite flying under the radar for the majority of its run, the series ended up being an award-winning success.

Schitt’s Creek premiered in January 2015, following the down-on-their-luck Rose family, which included husband Johnny (Eugene Levy), wife Moira (O’Hara), and their two adult daughters, David (Dan Levy) and Alexis (Alexis Levy) (Murphy).

The family had no alternative but to live in the nearby hotel, which was owned by the unenthusiastic Stevie Budd when they moved to the small town of Schitt’s Creek (Emily Hampshire). Despite their apparent desire to leave town and return to their luxurious lifestyle, the Rose family gradually became more interested in their new neighborhood.

Unlike other sitcoms, which appear to lose audiences as time passes, Schitt’s Creek grew in popularity as the seasons progressed. This was attributed to a number of reasons, the most notable of which was the availability of Schitt’s Creek on Netflix after its third season.

Schitt’s Creek Season 6: Reasons of Cancelation

The title’s accessibility in the United States brought it a broader audience, resulting in higher viewing ratings as new seasons premiered on Pop TV. In reality, Schitt’s Creek season 6 set rating records and received rave reviews from critics. Given the promising reception, Schitt’s Creek ended in the spring of 2020, at the height of its success.

Dan Levy announced the sixth episode will be the final chapter as part of Schitt’s Creek’s season 6 extension launch. The co-creator said (via Variety) that he “at no point wanted to compromise on content or storytelling” in making the selection.

Also at an expense of outstaying their welcome, the cast and crew wanted to finish the Rose family’s story on their own grounds, as they had always expected. The action was rational, given that some shows are required to hurry ends as a result of network cancellation decisions; Schitt’s Creek avoided the possibility.

In this era of reboots and revivals, it’s not out of the question that Schitt’s Creek will return at some point, but for now, season 6 marks the end of the iconic show.

Fortunately, the cast and crew didn’t leave without a proper send-off. Schitt’s Creek eventually earned a slew of Emmy awards for its sixth and final season, garnering a total of 15 nominations.

It went on to become the first comedy series to win all four acting categories, as well as five other major awards at the event. The Rose family’s path may have come to an end (for now), but their legacy will live on via broadcasting and advertising revenue.
