The price tag of the new OnePlus 9 series is all the more surprising!

You can buy the OnePlus 9 for just 699 euros, the OnePlus 9 Pro is available for 899 euros. A real price announcement that even makes us get over the fact that the inexpensive lite model OnePlus 9R is reserved for the Indian market for the time being.

Especially since the differences between the OnePlus 9 and the OnePlus 9 Pro are rather small, so that, in our opinion, it is not necessary to resort to the more expensive. The OnePlus 9 shows no weakness in terms of speed. With the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, the same chip is used here as in the Xiaomi Mi 11. Only the iPhone 12 currently offers more performance. RAM and device memory are also on par with the competition with up to 12 and 256 gigabytes, respectively.

Unfortunately, the memory cannot be expanded retrospectively using a microSD card, but this is now the exception at Samsung and Co.

When it comes to the display, there is nothing to complain about with the OnePlus 9 (Pro). Both models offer a high-resolution AMOLED display with a fast refresh rate. The battery capacity of 4,500 mAh is befitting. When it comes to charging speed, OnePlus even outperforms Samsung. Again, there is nothing to complain about.

The same applies to software. OnePlus has been one of the fastest suppliers of Android updates in the past few years. Similar to Samsung, the phones are also supplied with three major OS updates. By the way, Xiaomi does not guarantee you this.

One of the weaknesses of OnePlus phones in recent years has been the camera. Although “weakness” is a bit harsh to say here, the OnePlus mobile phones in the past few years most did not offer cameras as high-resolution as the competition, and the zoom capabilities are limited.

These points of criticism also apply to the OnePlus 9 series to a certain extent. Only the Pro model offers a telephoto lens. Due to such subtleties, OnePlus phones have mostly only been in the upper midfield in terms of picture quality in recent years. A detailed test has to show whether the collaboration with Hasselblad will change anything this year.

On paper, the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are on par with the more expensive competition in many ways, and in some ways are also superior. With the camera, you have to make a few compromises in comparison.

The OnePlus phones were and are not a total letdown in this respect either. From our point of view, anyone looking for an affordable high-end cell phone should therefore have the models on the list.
