Hunter X Hunter Updates: Yoshihiro Togashi was obviously motivated by other manga and anime series and thus has left many references tags in Hunter x Hunter throughout its run.
The now-heroic shonen anime and manga series Hunter X Hunter is the one of the most prolific anime out. Inspite, many fans feels that as if the series is forever stuck in hiatus hell, it still hold its many followers and thus keeps its plot near the top of the shonen totem pole.
Like many mangakas, the creator of Hunter X Hunter, Yoshihiro Togashi, was obviously motivated by many other manga and anime series when conceptualized and also while writing Hunter X Hunter and thus has left many references tags in the series throughout its run. These references go from shout-outs to other anime and manga to real-life references tags.
One of the references that many fans of Hunter X Hunter completely awaited was that of the classic magical girl manga & anime, Sailor Moon.
Due to the fact that Naoko Takeuchi, creator of Sailor Moon, and Yoshihiro Togashi, Hunter X Hunter creator, are actually a married couple in real life but not only on the reel. This makes this reference all the better.
There are quite a some references tags that can be trimmed into one scene when it comes to the Hunter X Hunter anime, as seen in this “blink & you’ll miss it” screen from the series.
Many tokusatsu actors are viewed here including multiple Kamen Riders, Super Sentai, Kaiju Monsters, and Garo. They are carried forward with Togashi’s out break roles.
Yes though, knowing that Togashi did not only bought forth Hunter X Hunter, it is to be expected that there will be a ton of different references to Yu Yu Hakusho as seen here.
The little pretty toy here that looks alike a Furby toy is named Pu. It is the spirit ghost of the main character of Yu Yu Hakusho, Yusuke Urameshi, and is also the series’s mascot.
The Yu Yu Hakusho references does not end there, as in the 1999 animated adaptation of Hunter X Hunter more roles from the hit shonen classic makes a look in different ways.
One of those characters is Hiei, who is the main cast one of the members of Yu Yu Hakusho. He apparently leaves in the Hunter X Hunter world, as he comes on a poster in the anime.
Hunter X Hunter fans knows all about the thrilling and most powerful book of the series villain, Chrollo. This book is called the Skill Hunter and also within it is another reference to Yu Yu Hakusho. The character referenced is a villain of the heroic shonen series that goes by the name of Suzaku. He is one of the opponents of Yusuke Urameshi.
The 2011 anime adaptation of the Hunter X Hunter manga does not just leave about itself tagging manga & anime that has bonds to the creator and the work. This is showcased with a reference to another heroic manga, Parasyte. One of the main roles of the series, Migi, can be seen on the front of a magazine in one scene of the anime.
While not in an anime, there’s one of the reference that shonen fans won’t be wanting to miss that is: exclusive to the original manga version of Hunter X Hunter.
That reference is another clue connection to Chrollo’s book. Chrollo’s book, Skill Hunter, is a very powerful property that can terminate in the death of anyone that surpasses him. This results in it being compared to the heroic Death Note from the series of the same name.
As the case is with Hirohiko Araki & his series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Togashi loves to reference his love of music and also a multitude of musical artists.
Two cases are Morel’s nen abilities being named Deep Purple after the rock band, and Smokey Jail in bond to the Jailhouse Rock song by Elvis Presley.
Speaking of Araki, while there has not been as plentiful as there are in other anime like it, there are quite a very few references to the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure series kept throughout the Hunter X Hunter.
One of those references comes from the character named Halkenberg and his nen beast who snatches a bullet shot at himself much like Jotaro with his Stand, Star Platinum, during his intro in Part 3.
Many fans have been caught on to the truth that Togashi loves to reference real life in the series with few of these references being more obvious than others.
One of the references that most urgently grabs fans’ attention was the name of Nobunaga Hazama, who is a single shot direct reference to Oda Nobunaga, a key grip of Japanese history.
