A Pokémon and Destiny 2 crossover with Pikachu disguised as Vanguards successfully combined two completely different games into one cute and engaging package.

The Pokémon franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary, which means a huge influx of content from Nintendo. and Game Freak: The announcement of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl, the launch of New Pokémon Snap, and even a post-Malone concert to mark the occasion. Because of this flurry of news, Pokémon is becoming even more discussed than usual for such a ubiquitous video game trait.

Destiny 2, on the other hand, is gradually rebuilding its reputation thanks to the constant influx of content and patches from Bungie, adding new elements to the game while smoothing out its more difficult mechanics.

There are big plans for the Destiny universe, and the consistent quality of Destiny 2 releases has revitalized a player base now eager to see what’s to come in 2022 and beyond.

While these two traits are popular, they’re not very similar, which makes the crossover of Pokémon and Destiny 2 by artist LostThingy even more intriguing. The artist posted three different pictures on Twitter last week, each of which shows Pikachu as a member of Vanguard.

Not only is the art on its top-notch, the renderings of the individual characters as Pikachu are spot on too. It’s the kind of light-hearted content many Destiny 2 fans need to give the gritty undertones of the story in recent expansions, and it even resurrects the beloved Cayde-6 as the Pikachu Vanguard who made a meal one of the most controversial moments in Destiny 2 never happened.

It’s an unexpected crossover, but the combination of Pokémon and Destiny 2 works, especially since LostThingy’s art has a great focus on the design elements most commonly associated with Cayde-6, Zavala, and Ikora Rey, to become an adaptable mascot over time, appearing in all sorts of outfits for the Pokémon franchise and looking adorable in just about everyone.

Sometimes the most obvious crossovers are the most notable, but lately, artists seem to be doing their best to show they can make anything work. LostThingy’s art is an example where the crossover of Pokémon and Destiny 2 works great and it evokes the fandom movement of every game where Isabelle and Doomguy have been so often associated.
