Tobias Fornell (Joe Spano) has been looking for his daughter Emily (Juliette Angelo) since the beginning of NCIS’s 18th season. Regrettably, his inquiry with Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) ended in disaster this week, and CBS dramatic viewers were not satisfied.

Viewers also expressed outrage at the unexpected death of favorite recurring role Emily Fornell in this week’s episode of NCIS, “Winter Chill.” Emily has been in persistent danger this season since her relapse prompted Gibbs and Fornell to look into a nearby meth ring. While their operation was a success, Emily’s battle with opioid addiction was not.

Many fans were hoping the suicidal girl would survive her overdose, but the series chose the worst possible result.

As the episode ended on Tuesday evening, viewers took to social media to share their displeasure with NCIS’s decision to murder Fornell’s daughter.

On Twitter, one fan wrote, “Oh nooooooooo! Emily is no longer alive! She will be sorely missed! I feel terrible for Fornell!”

“I’m not okay after tonight’s NCIS,” another wrote. “That was unforeseen and unwanted. This performance has a way of breaking my heart.”

The most recent episodes of CBS’s iconic crime drama have definitely had a grim undercurrent since the story has eventually skipped ahead to the coronavirus pandemic.

While Gibbs and the squad solved horrific murders on a daily basis, the latest season has struck a bit too close to home, with the deaths of several familiar faces. Any skeptics have also criticized the series’ decision to kill off or drop important female characters in the final few episodes.

Furthermore, fans were outraged when Breena Palmer was abruptly dropped from the series without ever saying farewell. Others in the crowd have also threatened to stop viewing if season 18 fails to pull at their heartstrings each week.

Although the series manages to offer exciting suspense and unexpected surprises, viewers hoping for light-hearted escapism have been put through the wringer in recent weeks.
