Mortal Kombat: Who Are Masked Villains? The Black Dragon Clan Explained

Mortal Kombat Updates: Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) battles Black Dragon assassin Kabal (Daniel Nelson), an ally of Kano (Josh Lawson) in Mortal Kombat 3 with a hard-to-spot action sequence on the new Mortal Kombat Trailer.

While in the current adaptation of the match the masked villain may have a completely different original story, he is canonically a member of the dangerous Black Dragon Clan, a multinational crime organization and an antagonistic group of the Mortal Kombat world.

Mortal Kombat is set to arrive on 16 April 2021 in the theatre and on HBO Max. It was directed by Simon McQuoid.

The Black Dragon clan was seen as being the poorest party in Earthrealm, which was born out of a fundamental refusal to respect the rigid codes of honor and stubbornness of the Red Dragon clan.

Established in the first half of the 20th century by martial artist Morihei Uyeshiba, the Black Dragon clan was famous throughout the world, spurring the creation of the U.S. Military Special Forces to deal with clans’ activity.

Mayor Jax Briggs was willing, after their escape from jail, to track down the Black Dragon and kill him as he was part of his quest to stop the Black Dragon Emperor, Kano, from picking up a mighty artifact called the Christian Eye.

This ancient crystal allowed the holder to exert tremendous control over other people and established ports between realms. This is probably why Kano wanted to use it to dominate the earth.

However, there followed a ferocious fight between Jax and Kano, in which Jax took the winning position which Kano escaped captivity shortly after entering the Mortal Kombat tournament in Shang Tsung.

While the Sonya Blade and its unit were seriously disadvantaged by the tournament, it marked the beginning of the Black Dragon’s rest. While Kano is normally an adversary during the several adjustments made to the franchise, he seems to be an ally of Sonya, Liu Kang, and Cole Young as the new Mortal Kombat trailer for the tournament.

If Kano is to be analyzed from the prism of an anti-hero, betrayal would probably permeate the covenant sooner or later, as the one-on-one desert battles between Kano and Sonya in the trailer suggest.

Mortal Kombat: The Black Dragon Clan

The Black Dragon members can be divided into Mercenaries and Thugs, while the former tend to have top-ranked members in line with the comics Mortal Kombat X.

Usually, Black Dragon Mercenaries donate armored whole bodysuits that can be enhanced by their cybernetic parts. The blacksmiths wear a mask and use chains, chain whips, and katanas as weapons of their choosing with a Black Dragon symbol emblazoned on the chest piece.

On the other hand, the Black Dragon Thugs are not well recognized, but most definitely they are considered as costly reinforcements for the whole clan.

The Black Dragon Clan was also part of a major story in Mortal Kombat: Conquest, a live television series in which a group of thugs from the clan is targeted at laying claims to the Reyland trading post.

This episode also unveiled the legend of a true black dragon’s magical abilities, allowing clan Members to learn the technology of fire offense. Interestingly enough, this spurt the quest for the mythical Dragon Medallion, first published in the Deadly Alliance- Mortal Kombat, decades later.

Therefore, it is interesting to witness how his arc plays and the manner in which their decisions will affect the dramatic, lush story of the forthcoming restart with Kano in a new perspective in the current Mortal Kombat reboot.
