Word Party is an American CGI animation children’s tv show that started streaming on Netflix in 2016. The series was produced by Jim Henson Company using the Henson Interactive Puppetry Studio.

What is the plot of the series Word Party?

The vocabulary-building program includes five young animals, Bailey the Elephant (Victor Yerrid), Kip the Wallaby (John Tartaglia),  main character Lulu the Panda (Dorien Davies), chief Franny the Cheetah (Donna Kimball), and Tilly the Tortoise (Alice Dinnean), “who loves to sing.” The show is narrated by Patina Miller.

Most of the activities taking place in the ‘Term Party’ revolves around its four diaper-wearing animal characters, and predictably, preschoolers act as the target audience for the display.

As a series that mainly has an instructional purpose, ‘Word Group’ follows four baby animals as they walk through their small world learning words for animals, artifacts, food, and other items. What makes the show fun for children is that the four animals sometimes speak straight to the camera and question the viewer, calling for guidance in the language of the “big kids” in the audience.

Although the show is not a fully interactive one like ‘Black Mirror: Bandersnatch,’ it provides the idea of interactivity, making the children watching the show feel like role models, particularly if they happen to know the terms that the animals are looking for. This illusion of interactivity is perhaps one of the highlights of the season.

Although children who are continually on the receiving end of lectures and guidance do not feel motivated to understand, the show reverses this power relationship and places their viewers on the pedestal of role models/mentors.

As “big kids” in the room, kids watching ‘Word Group’ are given the role of tutor, and this always pushes them to learn vocabulary on their own.

Packed with funny moments and kids’ music, the show also brings a lot of excitement to the learning process and makes kids understand stuff like shapes and numbers.

Apart from the very simple lessons of the Word Group, it also aims to teach children certain intangible lessons, such as positive dispute solving, friendship, and compassion.

Although the optimistic words and characters in ‘Word Group’ are not as strong as in other children’s shows like ‘Llama Llama,’ their aim is to teach words, forms, and numbers well.
