Black Lightning Season 4 Updates: [Note: This article contains the spoilers for the Season 4 premiere of Black Lightning] After the set of events happening around the Black Lightning season 3 finale, it returned for the 4th on Monday.

With the revelation that Freeland is trying to build in the post-Markovian war, the episode also shows the audience Jefferson dealing with problems of his own.

Post war scenes, where he grieves and comes to terms with actions which his family was forced to take in order to save themselves and others in the city. With him being sad, he also was angry.

The anger that is deep down of him because of Freeland police shutdown. According to Salim Akil, the showrunner of the series, it seems that Jefferson’s shutdown is based upon the real-life death of Elijah McClain.

Black Lightning Season 4 Episode 1

In the episode, Jefferson comes across two Freeland police, who were detaining and brutalizing a person. That person was a young black man who was carrying a violin with him.

Jefferson vouches for the young man, despite of this they show guns on him. This leads Jefferson to create enough oppression and open-up his Black Lightning powers in-front of them.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the showrunner said that this incident was inspired form the McLain, an unarmed, 23-year-old black, who was killed after placing in chokehold and sedated by paramedics in the year 2019 in Colorado.

Akil also shares his views on this this scene and says this to be a yin and yang situation creating a perfect balance. This was the moment where it feels righteous with the thing that was done to the cops, but this becomes vigilante to deal with gang member, as he was not trying to help or save anyone.

What he was doing is just taking the revenge. This is what the showrunners are going to deal with, when a superhero turns to an evil.

Akil teases, Black Lightning have a chance of “comic book dark” this season because of the consequences that Jefferson has to face because of the incident.

Akil has also commented on cops view of seeing Black Lightning to be public enemy Number 1. But this is going to be fun and we have to wait and see how fat the show goes dark. Akil expresses he is really looking forward for the show reaching the people.
