Wakanda TV Show Coming To Disney+ From Black Panther Director

Published by

Wakanda: Black Panther producer Ryan Coogler is creating a web series based on the kingdom of Wakanda as part of his current contract with Disney.

A series of seasons based on Wakanda for Disney+ is going to produced by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler. If the MCU moves into Phase 4, with many shows made for Disney+, it looks to open up the already vast universe even further.

Two weeks ago, the first, WandaVision, released and is now rolling out the latest episodes regularly. This year, Marvel has five shows scheduled for Disney+, with more going to come in the future. Much of this is on top of the movie schedules of the MCU, which begin in the same format as before.

The hotly-awaited sequel to the revolutionary 2018 film, Coogler is currently in the middle of writing the script for Black Panther 2. The shocking death of franchise patriarch Chadwick Boseman has prompted a significant reshuffling of how the film will be carried out by Marvel.

The Kingdom of Wakanda.

It’s clear that Boseman will not be recreated or recast with CGI, but there is nothing understood
about Black Panther 2 beyond that. Evidently, Disney has the same confidence in him.

The first has already been revealed: a Disney+ series centering on the kingdom of Wakanda. No more detail has been given, except that it is a drama. Proximity Principals Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis, and Peter Nicks are all included in this deal. This was said by Bob Iger, Disney’s executive director, in a statement:

“Ryan Coogler is a solo storyteller whose ambition and variety have made him one of the finest filmmakers of his generation. With Black Panther, in a true, significant, and unforgettable way, Ryan took a revolutionary story and legendary characters to life, creating a cultural breakthrough moment.

We’re excited to improve our friendship with Ryan and his team and look forward to sharing more amazing stories.” In a comment of his own, Coogler added: “It’s a pleasure to work with The Walt Disney Company.

We are particularly excited to be taking our first plunge with Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and their collaborators in Marvel Studios, where we will collaborate closely with them on select Disney+ MCUs. We are also in the mix on several collaborations that we can’t wait to reveal.”

This spin-off film from Coogler’s Black Panther is undoubtedly going to be met with a lot of fan interest right now. The fictitious nation of Wakanda is packed with various plot openings, properly presented in Black Panther, and given a prime spotlight in Avengers: Infinity War.

There’s already so much of Wakanda that can be studied, from their technical innovations to the diverse tribes that make up the empire. For such a deep dive, a Disney+ series seems like the best chance, mostly because it has additional time built into it. Rather than a two-hour broadcast, there will be several episodes that do more.

This leaves a huge question open: which characters in the movie could appear? It is fair that familiar figures such as Shuri (Letitia Wright) or M’Baku (Winston Duke) could make an appearance or two, while the Wakanda show could put new faces into the spotlight.

If the Wakanda series chooses to delve into certain areas of the country that the Black Panther, such as the Dora Milaje or the Jabari, have already made, it will seem odd not to include the fans of It looks like Coogler’s latest Black Panther movie is still in the early stages, but fans will have to wait and see where it goes.
