Why Scarlet Witch Is Hawkeye’s Biggest MCU Failure

Published by

Scarlet Witch: The breakdown of Scarlet Witch in WandaVision exposes Hawkeye’s greatest failure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With Vision in Westview and their twins, Billy and Tommy, Wanda Maxmimoff seems to be living a blissful life, but it’s clear there is something wrong with their situation.

The common theory argues that in Avengers: Infinity War, she may have developed this pocket reality as a way to cope with her lover’s tragic death, but it is not outside the realm of possibility that it is not as simplistic as that.

Scarlet Witch’s life was plagued by tragedies long before her relationship with Vision blossomed, and long before MCU Step 4.

She and her twin brother, Pietro Maximoff, watched their parents die on a random night when the Stark bomb exploded at their house.

Since then, before the death of Quicksilver during the final battle at Sokovia in Avengers: Age of Ultron, it was the two of them wading through life. She and Vision finally fell in love, bonding through their mutual link to the Mind Stone.

But the synthezoid automatically became a priority for Thanos as the keeper of an Infinity Stone, resulting in his ultimate death at the hands of the Insane Titan.

Why Scarlet Witch MCU’s Failure

WandaVision, which takes place weeks after the Avengers: Endgame events in the MCU timeline and the revelation by Wanda that Vision is still dead, finds Scarlet Witch in Westview living her fantasy life.

Regardless of the particulars of how this pocket reality came to be, her sorrow over her lover’s death may have played a very good role in its development.

It could have been different had Clint Barton, the closest thing Wanda had to a mentor or father figure, gave Wanda the emotional support she sorely needed.

WandaVision’s events show that after Endgame, Wanda has been by herself, and being alone may be the worst thing for someone who is potentially vulnerable and mourning.

Everyone else who may have helped Wanda during this very difficult time is gone at this point, including the members of the Secret Avengers she spent time with after Captain America: Civil War.

Natasha has died. Steve’s in retirement. Sam is struggling to be the latest Captain America. When Hawkeye inspired her to resolve her fears and join the team as an Avenger, Clint is the only person left she could have relied on given her bond dating back to the Age of Ultron.

In the same fight, her brother, Pietro, also died to save Clint; since then, the bow-and-arrow-wielding Avenger has made it a point to keep an eye on the remaining Maximoff twin.

To make this worse, as they bonded over their losses during Thanos’ attack, Endgame also emphasized this strong friendship between Clint and Wanda.

Hawkeye was mourning for his best mate, Black Widow, who died when Scarlet Witch mourned Vision during the time heist.

Neither character was brought back by the reverse snap of Smart Hulk, as their deaths were not triggered by the snap of Thanos.

Given this, Clint may have been so lost in his sadness that he was unable to be there for her properly as he should have been, or sufficiently conscious of the signs that.

There’s still time to rectify this error with five episodes left if WandaVision brings Hawkeye in to appeal to Scarlet Witch.
