Supergirl Season 6: Stuff that need to happen

Supergirl Season 6 Update: In 2021, Supergirl is going to hang up her cape. Last month, it was revealed that Supergirl Season 6 would be her last. The news of the cancellation was somewhat shocking, but I think now is as fine a time to finish Supergirl on a high note as any. The show, which originally premiered on CBS before transferring for Season 2 to The CW, has given the Arrowverse a lot of fun and it would be sad to say goodbye.

We’re not just yet in the final stretch of the season, though, and there are still lots of plots and character scenes that need to happen until for the final time, Supergirl goes up, up and down. It is possible that Supergirl Season 6 will take up where the condensed Season 5 left off. Ahead of the sixth and final season of Supergirl, here are seven things I think ought to happen before rolling out the closing credits.

Supergirl Season 6: Update

We’re not just yet in the final stretch of the season, though, and there are still lots of plots and character scenes that need to happen until for the final time, Supergirl goes up, up and down. It is possible that Supergirl Season 6 will take up where the condensed Season 5 left off. Ahead of the sixth and final season of Supergirl, here are seven things I think ought to happen before rolling out the closing credits.

7. Supergirl has to reveal to President Marsdin what happened.

In Season 4, President Olivia Marsdin of Lynda Carter was banned from the planet Durla as an alien.
Since the fourth season of Supergirl, though, Lynda Carter has not reprised her part and I’d like to know what happened to Marsdin, who seems like a kind and caring person. Has Marsdin returned to Durla? She’s hiding out? Any way, we need answers and having Carter on the screen once more will be a bonus.

6. In her life, Kara must have more romance

Supergirl is the only one of all the Arrowverse shows that has consistently lacked a stable romance for its character. In Season 1, Melissa Benoist’s Kara was romantically involved in seeking a friendship with James Olsen. However, when the two agreed to remain friends, the story moved in a different direction in Season 2. Before he left, Kara then dated Mon-El for most of Season 2.

Supergirl Season 6

Kara kissed fellow reporter William Dey briefly in season 5, but Supergirl doesn’t appear too ready to plunge into this friendship either. Shit, I don’t even know whether they’re still going out because it’s vague about their standing. Ok, what gives? The fact that Arrow, The Flash, and even Legends of Tomorrow had quite a bit of romance when the Girl of Steel got paying dust in that department doesn’t sit right with me. Here’s hoping that Kara will get the love storyline she deserves from Season 6.

5. Alex Danvers should adopt a kid at last

Children were still wanted by Alex Danvers. In reality, it wasn’t her having children when her ex-fiancĂ©e Maggie Sawyer did what finally led them to end their Season 3 engagement. Alex started looking at adoption services soon afterwards and was elevated to DEO director in the expectation that she could reconcile her career and personal life (less field work and all).

Supergirl Season 5, however, swept this plot pretty much under the rug. In Obsidian’s virtual reality simulation, we got a snapshot of Alex carrying a baby as an alternative, but that’s about it. I think Alex can actually go on with adopting a baby now that Alex is in a healthy relationship with Kelly Olsen and things are going well. Given that Kelly really wants kids, as I think she does, so the final season presents the best chance for that to happen.

4. Martian Manhunter with M’gann could return to Mars

There’s nothing I’d love more than to see J’onn J’onzz hang around on Earth and be a space dad forever to Kara and Alex. The Martian Manhunter may need a break, though, after parting ways with the DEO and starting up his own company. Only because I want him to go back to Mars in the final season of Supergirl doesn’t mean that it has to be permanent.
In Supergirl Season 5, M’gann’s surprising (but welcome) return acted as a reminder that Mars is still very much part of the identity and heart of J’onn. I think it would be good if, after so much suffering and chaos, J’onn were to visit Mars and make peace with his homeworld. He would also be able to check in on his brother Malefic, especially now that things are peaceful between them.

3. Lex wants one and for all to be overcome

One of Supergirl Season 4’s greatest surprises was that Lex Luthor was the one who pulled the reins, fanned the hateful cause of Agent Liberty’s fire, and used Red Daughter as his secret weapon against Supergirl. Lex was once again the mastermind in Season 5, plotting to penetrate Leviathan’s ranks and screwing deliberately with Obsidian’s VR systems.
Admittedly, since he turned up on Supergirl, Lex has been a pain in everybody’s side and he just keeps winning. Provided that the sixth season will be the last of the superhero show, I assume Lex needs to be defeated for good. Supergirl and Lena were also able to work together to do so, unifying El and Luthor’s houses in a special manner.

2. Supergirl and Superman need to once again team up

By the time Supergirl arrived on Earth in a crash, her cousin Clark Kent was an adult. The plot point was a perfect way of avoiding inquiries about where he was and Metropolis would still have the answer.

He starred in the premiere of Supergirl Season 2, however, and it is enough to claim that his team-up with Kara was pretty amazing.

It wasn’t the last time Supergirl and Superman traveled together, but the appearances of Man of Steel on Supergirl were few and far between (which I think is perfect given the title of the show).

That said, the final season of Supergirl might be the last time we ever see Kara playing Melissa Benoist, and I think it would be lovely if she and Tyler Hoechlin were reunited for one last adventure together.

1. Should James Olsen and Cat Grant Return

In early season 5, Mehcad Brooks quit Supergirl, though Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant was last seen in Season 3. It made me a little nostalgic for the Season 1 protagonists, with Jeremy Jordan’s brief return to the series last season. Although Winn Schott is now in the future and less likely to return, if James and Cat returned to the show for one more appearance, I would completely love it.

Plus, Cat has been elevated by President Marsdin to Press Secretary, but it’s uncertain what that means to her now. Oh, see? In the very least, she wants to come back to tie up loose story strings. Maybe there’s such a huge story that Kara calls James for help and Cat for advice? I don’t think they need an excuse to drop in, clearly, but it will sure be good to see them again before the show’s end.

It’s hard to imagine Supergirl is coming to an end. I still haven’t wrapped my mind around it quite yet. There is plenty of time, though, to tie up the plot and provide some resolution to the characters (and the fans) before it’s all said and done. Here’s hoping Season 6 is going to be the best yet.
