Animal Kingdom Season 6 Update: The Animal Kingdom crime drama has been renewed for TNT’s sixth and final season. In summer 2021, the Ellen Barkin-less season 5 is expected to arrive. Animal Kingdom has been renewed by TNT for season 6, which will be the final one for the show as well.
The Ellen Barkin-led serial crime thriller series has been delivering great summer viewing numbers to its WarnerMedia-backed network since June 2016, based on David Michôd’s 2010 Australian movie of the same name.
The events of the series have been put into motion During season 1, when the 17-year-old J (Finn Cole) moved in with his distant relatives, The Cody tribe, an outlaw clan led by the tough matriarch Smurf of Barkin.
Animal Kingdom Season 6: Update
And since then, with its crime-centric storyline, tense plotlines, and darkly exciting turns, the show has continued to hold audiences entertained. The fourth season of Animal Kingdom premiered in August 2019, and season 5 is due to premiere shortly.
In season 4, when Smurf was murdered by J, the faithful fans of Animal Kingdom were served with another surprising murder. The death of Smurf suddenly created a vacuum that her friends and enemies tried to exploit.
And the Cody tribe, meanwhile, was left without its powerful matriarch to sort out life. Though Smurf had died, through ongoing flashbacks to the 70s, she reappeared in season 4, giving viewers a taste into what her life was like before becoming a criminal mastermind.
Season 4 concluded in an explosive story arc when it was discovered that Smurf had cut her family out of her will and instead left it all to a mystery woman named Pamela Johnson. It is now predicted that Season 5 will uncover the reality behind Smurf’s decision while still setting the framework for the final installment of the story.
Variety revealed on Tuesday that TNT has updated Animal Kingdom for the season 6 final. The site also stated that the cast and crew of the show were informed last November about the production.
They are currently already preparing to start production in February for the final season. However, it is still not clear when Season 6 will launch, and which stars have been recruited for the final run of the series.
With respect to season 5, it will launch in the summer of 2021. Season 5 would patch up some loose ends from the earlier versions of the show until Animal Kingdom comes to a close in with season 6.
