Escape room 2 Update: The release date for Escape Room 2 was set by Sony Pictures for January 7, 2022. Director Adam Robitel comes back to lead the sequel that sees returning original stars Taylor Russell and Logan Miller.
In the sequel to the surprise 2019 hit film, they are joined by Isabelle Fuhrman, Thomas Cocqueral, Holland Roden, Carlito Olivero, and Indya Moore. Shortly after the first film opened, Escape Room 2 was revealed to be in production as a surprise success.
Originally scheduled for release on 17 April 2020, the film was pushed back to 30 December 2020, well before the release dates of the COVID-19 pandemic began to change. The movie was then moved back to January 1, 2021, for two days, where it would sit until October when Sony shifted it back to an undisclosed release date of 2021. With a release date of 2022, there will now be a three-year delay between the original movie and its sequel.
Escape Room 2: Release date
The release date of January 2022 now makes it the first of three horror movies that will open that month. Scream 5 will be released the next week, and then Sony Pictures will release Morbius on January 21, too.
Moving Morbius, Uncharted, and now Escape Room 2 from 2021 to 2022 represents the approach of Sony Pictures earlier last year, when they transferred all of their films from 2020 to 2021.
The delays are now taking effect again in 2021, and Sony is getting ahead of the market by staking out release dates. When the first movie ended with a sequel set-up that promises to broaden the universe, returning director Adam Robitel realized the opportunity was there for a sequel to his teen-friendly Saw-meets-Cube horror.
Original writer Bragi F Schut (who co-wrote the first movie with Maria Melnik) and director Neal H Moritz are back as well, but like several other upcoming movies around, the sequel has been plagued with several delays.
The January slot that performed so well with the first movie in 2019 would have matched perfectly with that. Sony, however, then pushed the sequel to an uncertain release date in 2021, but we do not actually know when it will be released.
Cast- Who Will Return?
Let’s see the characters. And that’s ok, not necessarily did the first movie leave so many characters alive to return for the sequel. Just two of the six unlucky people who visited the escape area, timid student Zoey (Taylor Russell) and grocery store worker Ben Russell, made it out alive (Logan Miller).
The official casting announcement announced Russell and Miller’s planned return, and they will be joined by Pose star Indya Moore, Holland Roden of Teen Wolf, Isabelle Fuhrman of Orphan, Carlito Olivero, and Thomas Cocquerel, and many more.
