Star Wars Episode 4 Updates: Star Wars is an ever-growing saga now, but George Lucas made the odd decision to launch a movie in the middle that he felt would fail.
Star War’s huge popularity has expanded into 11 movies and counting, but the odd option for beginning Star Wars was made by George Lucas: Episode IV – A New Hope.
Lucas had a daring and complex idea of bringing science fiction films in a different direction, but he needed a place to launch the long story he had prepared.
He decided to start in the middle of his planned sequence, even though he thought the first Star Wars film himself was a disappointment, to the point that when he heard that it was a success he was hiding from his potentially failing film in Hawaii.
Star Wars Episode 4 Why George Lucas Started
Afterward, both sequels and prequels had the opportunity to go forward. Now that the Star Wars universe has been so full, Disney has totally abandoned the episode of Star Wars, it all began with the fourth season of the film. A single epic novel, covering the whole original trilogy, Lucas had written, but that script was too difficult to be translated into one single movie.
He divided his script into three sections instead. The first act was A New Hope, the second was The Empire’s Backs and the third was The Jedi’s Return. This explains why the original trilogy flows in so naturally; they were a single story in the beginning.
For the script which later became the series prequel, Lucas had also planed an entire history and Lucas proceeded to plot ideas for a Star Wars sequel trilogy different from Disney’s. But he had to select the best start for the audience before he could get into the rest of the plot.
He determined that the first act of his epic was that which brought him into the world from a storytelling and technological approach. He still wanted to make more films in the timeline before A New Dream, but it was better to bring viewers far and far into the cosmos.
This portion of the original script had taken several draughts to refine in a coherent plot, shifting the components of his first act into its independent function and cut out unnecessary details.
And main characters such as Han Solo have been greatly rewritten. He still hadn’t completely formulated his plans for the rest of the films, but he incorporated enough world construction and historical references outside of the plot to make clear that A New Hope was in a long saga. Beginning with Episode IV, the audience was throwing with little meaning into the Star Wars universe.
Even the first film refers to events such as the Clone Wars, which did not take place until prequels were made. After Star Wars, the prequel films became necessary.
When the first film was made, Lucas thought A New Chance was the sixth film in the past that originally planned the first film, went through the clone wars with three films, and ended with events that led to the trilogy. The prequels were eventually condensed in a trilogy but were probably affected.
Now fans also consider the prequel trilogy to be a largely unmanageable story that took creative mistakes. Yet Star Wars couldn’t deter even the most maligned prequels forever.
