WandaVision’s Paul Bettany Was Scared to Film in Front of a Live Audience

Published by

WandaVision Updates: Paul Bettany was initially afraid to record the first few episodes of WandaVision in front of a live audience. The series, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Bettany, started the fourth round of MCU at Disney + with its first two episodes.

Those two episodes have been heavily influenced by comedy shows of the past years, including The Dick Van Dyke Show and Bewitched. Encrypting that MCU tone would be difficult, but, with all accounts, the studio removed it.

The original review and their response both praised the program for its dedication to the sitcom features of its original episodes and the show is currently the highest MCU site for Rotten Tomatoes.

The sitcom feature is just part of what is coming to WandaVision, but viewers will have to wait and see what awaits the busiest couples at MCU, as Disney releases weekly episodes until March.

To immerse himself in the first half of the sitcom comedy show, director Matt Shakman decided to make a film in front of the studio audience and, at first, Bettany was not a fan of the concept.

WandaVision: Paul Bettany Shared he was Scared

The Vision actor told Variety that, when he found out they would be filming in front of a live studio audience, he was a little shocked. Bettany says she was reluctant to make a film in front of people but eventually stopped, saying that Shakman was right that it would help the show’s performance.

Bettany went on to detail what it was like for the actors to record in front of an audience, to sign strong NDAs, and how it ultimately helped make the show a success.

And while at first, it was a little scary, I was reluctant to shoot in front of a live studio audience, but Matt was right. Matt made us do it.

It really helped to give us this kind of performance those shows have because those shows I feel have an audience in the room because there is an audience in the room.

You start to forget about the cameras and just play the funny audience. At the end of it, Kathryn [Hahn], Lizzie, me, and Teyonah [Parris] – blessed her heart, will see it because she’s not in the first episode – they all look at each other and walk away, I think that’s what’s on the show. I think we should nail it to the wall now. ‘
