Netflix- Xico’s Journey: Everything We Know So Far

Xico’s Journey Update: The distribution rights for the Mexican animated movie – Xico’s Journey have been purchased by Netflix. The content platform has a history of providing its audiences with one mind-blowing movie after another.

This is one of them. The movie was originally produced by Mexico’s Anima Estudios in November 2020. Its Mexican title is,  ‘El Camino de Xico.’

The production house Anima Estudios is known for its long-standing commitment to bring the Mexican people closer to their culture.

Xico’s Journey: Update

They use subtle characterization, storylines, and plots to portray the rich Mexican culture and they bring it to life. They have movies like A Wizard’s Tale, Top Cat: The Movie, and Netflix’s Legend Quest series in their arsenal. In El Camino de Xico, they have portrayed the Mexican hairless dog, Xoloitzcuintle as one of the characters. 

In the movie, we follow Copi, her dog Xico and her best friend Gus on their adventure to save their town. A big corporation is trying to take over the mountain which protects Copi’s village.

If they do not do anything, all their lives will be endangered. Now, it is on Copi, Xico, and Gus to save them all. It is a story of true belief and adventure. While trying to achieve their goals, we see our characters face hardship but they overcome it all. 

The screenplay for the movie was written by Enrique Renteria. He is known for his work in Dark City, Al Acecho del Leopardo, etc.

He was nominated for the Silver Ariel award in 2003 in the category of Best Screenplay Adapted from Another Source for the movie Ciudades oscuras. The movie was directed by Eric Cabello who is known for his work in several animated shows. 

Xico is voiced by Pablo Gama Iturrarán, Copi is voiced by Verónica Álvarez and Gus is voiced by Luis Ángel Jaramillo. Lila Downs, Elena Poniatowska, Verónica Castro, Enrique Guzmán, Alex Lora have also lent their voices to the movie. 

The movie will be available to audiences on Netflix from  12 February 2021.
