Outside the Wire: Everything we know so far

Outside the Wire Update: Netflix’s new show Outside the Wire came out on 15 January 2021. After three days of its release, the movie has garnered a rating of 5.4/10 on IMDB.

The cinema was directed by Mikael Håfström who is best known for his work Evil and, was produced by Automatik Entertainment. It has a killer cast on its rolls including Anthony Mackie, Damson Idris, Emily Beecham, and Pilou Asbæk.

The trailer sets the audience up for a movie filled with action, war, brotherhood, betrayal, and a whole lot of drama. In the trailer, we see Harp played by Damson Idris in the role of a drone commander.

He seems to have breached some line of command because of which he is sent to Commander Leo. Leo is played by Anthony Mackie. Leo is portrayed to be a ruthless commander who doesn’t let emotions color his decisions. 

From the trailer, we find out that Leo is an artificial intelligence project started by military intelligence. His existence is supposedly ‘classified.’ Only Harp and another commander at the base seem to know the truth. Leo’s program was fashioned after the robotic soldiers who are known as Gumps. 

Outside the Wire: Update

In the trailer, we see that Leo and Harp leave their command center to enter enemy lines. They seem to develop a kind of brotherhood but, everything falls apart soon and, Harp says, “What are you using me for?” suggesting ulterior motives on Leo’s part. 

Although the trailer seems incredibly promising, the movie in the few short days after its release did not fare well with the audience and the critics. It was found wanting for a consistent storyline and direction. 

The New York Times called it an “empty-calorie action in a less than fulfilling, Cold War-inspired robotic revolt narrative.” If this doesn’t perfectly sum up the movie, I do not know what does. 

The movie’s star Anthony Mackie, in a recent interview, was heard hoping that the movie will turn into a franchise. Does this mean that there is going to be an Outside the Wire 2?

For a movie which has been called endless and boring, the star sure has high hopes. Nothing has been confirmed by the production house yet.

 Leo’s future is unknown. Even if the creators decide to put out another movie or to turn the present one into a franchise, will Leo return? What will be the movie on? All of this is unknown but we hope to see more from the actor.
