RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 Video: let’s see the two queens lip sync for their lives

Published by

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 Updates: On Monday, VH1 unveiled the opening act of the Jan. 1 premiere of Drag Race, which kicks off with Season 13’s first two Werkroom arrivals.

Kandy Muse, New York Queen, comes in boldly, declaring that any slut who marches in after me [gets] the second spot. She is accompanied by the native of Arizona, Joey Jay, the stupidest slut you’ll ever see, whose entry look ruffles her competition with some feathers.

And the gag hits. Joey and Kandy discover after sharing uncomfortable pleasantries that they have to progress to the main stage immediately, where they can sync their lips against each other to stay in the game.

From Kandy’s trademark sexy, slutty, denim look to Joey’s chicken-inspired wardrobe (Cluck, cluck!), Mama Ru, Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley and Ross Mathews begin by grilling the queens about their outfits before they fight it out to the tune of Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 13 The first two queens lip sync for their lives:

Of course, Drag Race’s hallmark moment is the lip sync for your life moment, the main addition of the competition to television as a platform.

In every segment, this high-stress portion has culminated in some legendary performances that still evoke oohs and aahs from crowds today.

Decider made sure to question every queen from the Season 13 cast about their own favourite lip syncs from the whole Drag Race canon, anticipating that the season opener would feature a half dozen lip sync duels.

From four group interviews with the cast of the season, what follows is culled. Lipsyncing For Your Life is the main battle moment for the Queens to hold their head in the competition, move up, and show they are deserving of their position, so it makes sense to put it as the first form of challenge.

However, with the format of two queens joining the workroom, the idea was a bit better than the execution, only to be ordered to leave the workroom, and then reach the main stage, a little bumpy and boring.

Neither did the final surprise make a whole lot of sense, with who would be sent home remaining a mystery for at least another week.
