Call Your Mother Updates: When an empty nest begins to wonder how she ended up alone while thousands of miles away her children enjoy their best lives, she realizes her place is with her family and reinserts herself into their lives.

The series was first ordered by ABC in September 2019 as a pilot and was one of many projects Lizer had under her agreement with Sony. The series was given the working title My Village on January 23, 2020.

On March 6, 2020, it was announced that the pilot would be directed by Pamela Fryman. On May 21, 2020, the series was green-lighted by ABC and was re-titled as Call Your Mother. It was revealed on June 17, 2020, that the series will debut in the fall of 2020 and air on Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m.

However, it was announced the next day that it will swap places with Black-ish, and will premiere midseason instead. The series is scheduled to return on January 13, 2021.

Call Your Mother reflects on an empty mother, Jean Raines (Sedgwick), who asks how she ends up alone while her kids live their best lives thousands of kilometers away.

She determines her place is with her daughters, and her children understand that they may really need her more than they expected when she reinserts herself into their lives.
