This year’s Christmas Special is set in December 1965. While everyone at Nonnatus House is looking forward to traditional celebrations with all the trimmings, their celebrations are overshadowed by challenges.

Sister Monica Joan is hurried to the clinic, and Trixie is enraged to adopt a subscription service to a Wedding Bureau as a Christmas bounty.

The Circus also arrives in Poplar, bringing new friendships, new experiences, and an exciting adventure for Nurse Crane.

The conspiracy follows recently trained midwife Jenny Lee, as well as the work of midwives and nuns at Nonnatus House, a nursing home and part of an Anglican religion, to deal with medical problems in the poorest Poplar region of London’s poorest East End.
