The Trial of the Chicago 7: Historic moment as All Actors to campaign for the Oscars.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 Updates: The American historical legal drama film ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7  is written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, and released on Netflix on 25 September 2020.

Recently it was reported that all the actors from the movie will campaign in the Best Supporting category at the Oscars. But with so many prominent male actors standing in queue for the nominations, who has the best chance of breaking through?

The film tells about Chicago Seven, a group of anti-Vietnam War protesters who are charged with conspiracy and crossing lines with the intention to ignite riots at the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago.

The film includes an ensemble cast of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Daniel Flaherty, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Carroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Noah Robbins, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp, and Jeremy Strong.

Let’s talk about the six most likely contenders from the film who can put forth a strong fight in the nominations.

Mark Rylance(William Kunstler) – He plays the role of a defense counsel co-founder of the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), board member of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), an active member of the National Lawyers Guild.

Previously, he has already won this category for his role in the Cold War drama “Bridge of Spies”.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Bobby Seale) – He plays the national chairman of the Black Panther Party and eighth defendant.

Despite the fact that his screen time is comparatively lesser than his co-actors but still he manages to deliver the film’s most righteous anger. He has been earlier awarded Emmy for his performance in Watchmen.

Sasha Baron Cohen (Abbie Hoffman) – He is the founding member of the Youth International Party in the movie. His character is so prominent and the showiest role as he as the activists gets to steal scenes and make speeches.

Jeremy Strong (Jerry Rubin) – Like Abdul Mateen, Strong also received Emmy for his role in Succession. His role is of the founding member of Yippies and is a transformative performance as that of Cohen. He is almost unrecognizable as Rubin and his chances depend on whether viewers view his role.

Frank Langella (Julius Hoffman) – He emerges as the villain of the film. His role depicts a bully who makes arbitrary pronouncements from the bench as he seems in no mood of giving the Chicago 7 a fair trial.

He has nominated earlier also for his role of Richard Nixon in Frost/Nixon (2008).

Eddie Redmayne (Tom Hayden) – He plays the character of a leader and one-time President of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). Comparatively, his screen time is more than others in the film.

Also, the emotional arc between agitation and civility when he protests against the corrupted system drives much f the story. Earlier he was nominated twice including a win for ‘The Theory of Everything’
