US Election 2020: Joe Biden officially secures enough electors to become president

US Election 2020: Joe Biden, who has spent half a century in public life as a US senator and then Vice-president under Donald Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama, will be the oldest person to assume the US president’s office at age 78.

The associated press called the presidential race Saturday morning, declares that former vice president Joe Biden will become the 46th president of the United States. Officially handing him the electron college majority needed to win the White House.

He secures his win with crucial Victories in swing states such as Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan. His running mate Sen. Kamala Harris of California will make history by being the first black woman and first Asian-American woman to be elected as vice president.

Secretary of state Alex Padilla’s formal approval of Biden’s win in the state brought his tally of pledged electors so far to 279, according to a tally by the associated press. That’s just over the 270 thresholds for victory.

But the journey from candidate to president-elect, and then President Trump’s refusal to concede, although there is no sign his efforts will derail Biden’s inauguration on January 20.

Before 2020, Biden has tried his luck in the presidential race twice in 1988 and 2008.

Biden’s victory was driven by strong support from groups including women African, American, White voters with college degrees and city dwellers. He was more than 4 million voted ahead of trump in the nationwide popular count.

Acknowledging that he will soon be presiding over a deeply divided nation, Joe Biden wrote “The work ahead of us will be hard, But I promise you this I will be the president of all American whether you voted for me or not. I will keep the faith you have placed in me.
