Lon Adams, man behind Slim Jim Jerky Recipe dies at 95 due to COVID 19.

Lon Adams: The man who developed the modern recipe for Slim Jim beef jerky, Lon Adams, died on November 28 due to coronavirus in a hospital situated in Raleigh, North Carolina at the age of 95.

His death was confirmed by his children Eleanor Harrington and Eric Adams to The New York Times, on 3 November. A graveside funeral for Lon Adams was held on Wednesday.

Slim Jim was already invented in 1928 by Adolph Levis but Lon Adams crafted the modern recipe when he was the director of Goodmark Foods meat technology.

ConAgra Brands(who owns Goodmark today), said  the company was “grateful for the contributions that Lon made to Slim Jim.” He also revealed that how the recipe crafted by Adams was safeguarded in a vault at Goodmark’s Raleigh headquarters.

He also served in World War ii in the 82nd Airborne Division. After his injury in the Battle of the Bulge in 1945, he decided to return US and completed his graduation from St. Ambrose College and then his master’s degree in microbiology from Lowa State University.

He moved to North Carolina and joined Goodmark after working at a pork production in Lowa. He retired as a principal scientist after working with Goodmark Foods for so many years.

He also had Alzheimer’s disease and therefore he was moved to an assisted living center in Raleigh. He was found positive when checked for COVUD19 virus which he contracted in the center and died after a week. His family includes two children and three grandchildren His wife died back in 1989.
