Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom- A showcase of Triumph of Blacks

Published by

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom Updates: A review: George C. Wolfe directed a 2020 American drama film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is an engaging and appealing movie to watch.

This movie, with the reality of actors and communication of themes, deals with the issues that existed in history.

The US-originated Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is written by Rubon Santiago Husdson, produced by Denzel Washington, Todd Black, and Dany Wolf.

The film is distributed by Netflix with Mundy Lane Entertainment and Escape Artists as production companies.

With The Joy Of Doing Cast

With the joy of doing, the cast members have done really exceptional job. With Viola Davis as Ma Rainey, Chadwick Boseman as Levee, Glynn Turman as Toledo, Colman Domingo as Cutler, Micheal Potts as Slow Drag, Taylour Paige as Dussie Mae, Dusan Brown as Sylvester, Jeremy Thomas as Irvin and Jonny Coyne as Sturdivant, the movie is reaching heights.

Leave the troubled young musician at the center of this exciting film version of August’s play, has made it hard to believe that Chadwick is no more.

He died from colon cancer during post-production of Black Bottom, making it his last appearance. Boseman’s iconic T’Challa in Black Panther and Jackie Robinson in 42, makes it more shocking.

The story sets in 1927, on a hot summer afternoon in Chicago, Ma and her band record several songs, including one that gives the film title.

But, Ma and her other band members clash with Levee, a trumpeter, who is ambitious, arrogant but not always wrong. He wants to bring a livelier, jazz-influenced style to Ma’s old bluesy music, but the clash erupts between Levee and other older members of the band.

The theme is even deeper; it is about the oppression that black people have faced throughout history. It also deals with the issues of race, art, religion, and historic exploitation of black recording artists by white producers.

The movie is based on one out of 10 play Pittsburgh Cycle by August Wilson, 1982.
