Hillbilly Elegy Review and What Critics has to say?

Hillbilly Elegy Review: Are you highly excited to watch the movie, Hillbilly Elegy? If yes, let me tell you, the movie might not leave you as happy as you have expected.

The critics have really come down hard on the movie. Even after Glenn Close and Amy Adams’s great efforts to make the movie successful, it has not been proved very worthwhile.

The review aggregation site, Rotten Tomatoes has provided Hillbilly Elegy with a score as low as 26 percent. According to one of the reviews, the movie stars the finest actors is not a very deep setting.

Adapted from a  memoir called Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by JD Vance, the story talks about perspective. It explores the American dream through three different missions.   Basso’s James, his mother Bev (Adams), and his grandmother Mamaw (Close) are the three generations here.

James is compelled to trace his way back home, which he really wanted to forget. James has always been having a very turbulent relationship with his mother. His mother had a bad struggle with her own addictions. Now, it is James’ task to hold his family close enough, together.

Ty Burr of Boston Globe’s noted that the movie has great neo-liberal spirits and socio-political ideas. It may get nominated for a number of dramas in a row.

Jake Coyle,  an associated press is of the view that the Hillbilly Elegy in itself is quite meaningful and symbolic.

However, the overdramatic setting and it’s excessive melodramatic approach makes it more like a caricature. Greatly moving through the chaotic ideas of poverty, addiction and abuse have shaken the real essence of the movie.

Roberts Daniels of Polygon is of the opinion that the story of Hillbilly Elegy, is a representation of a community, but not in terms of profundity. It gives a very short-sighted idea.
