While Castlevania fans were waiting for season 4, Netflix dropped Blood of Zeus to tame them. Coming from the same studio that brought you Castlevania, Blood of Zeus is an epic tale based around Greek mythology.
Blood of Zeus follows the journey of a man named Heron. After finding out the fact that he’s the bastard son of Zeus, fate leads him on a path to defeat an army of demons. In this path, he meets Hera, Zeus’s wife (at least one of them), and her allies.
Sure this series may spin a new story with its own set of dramatic intricacies, but the foundation and nature of the mythology remain the same. It plays on the legend of how Gods have a terrible habit of manipulating mankind.
Heron may not be Hercules but he is just as persistent and charismatic. Every episode reveals new information that pushes the characters more and more into the gray areas. One can’t help but find themselves fully immersed the whole time in this massive tale of tragedy war love, and betrayal from beginning to finish.
With Castlevania season 4 probably releasing in late 2021, anyone looking hungry for a gory, action-packed anime should give Blood of Zeus a try. It’s the perfect alternative as both are made by the same studio.
To clarify, Castlevania by no means comes close to the Zeus series in the matter of the story. The first is a show with Vampires and all things gothic. On the other hand, the latter is based around Greek mythology as discussed above. Notwithstanding, both share similitudes in craftsmanship be it visually or aurally.
It can be accepted that the Zeus series has a more cheerful cast. Even the episodes are fast passed, with rapid plot developments. Castlevania is the polar opposite of this with hardened cast members and gradual developments. Evidently, this show is three-season long.
Blood of Zeus season 1 and Castlevania seasons 1-3 are available for streaming exclusively on Netflix. No official announcement for the renewal of Blood of Zeus season 2 and Castlevania season 4 has been announced as of now.
