The scariest time of the year is almost upon us. Chances are you’re looking for something scary to watch this Halloween, especially since Halloween parties are mostly canceled. So, here are the five good horror movies on Amazon Prime Video this year.
There are just-released movies and something from the 1980s. There will be something for all types of horror that you prefer.
If you time it right this Halloween, you’ll have plenty of time to get through all five movies. Halloween is on a Saturday this year and there’s an extra hour!
1. Black Box (Amazon Prime)
We’ll start with the newest of the horror movies on Amazon Prime Video for Halloween 2020. Black Box was one of the four movies from Blumhouse that dropped on Prime during October. It’s also arguably the best horror movie out of the four, focusing more on psychological horror than anything else.
2. The Forgotten
The Forgotten is a fantasy horror, following three knights who stumble upon an ancient evil on their way home. It opens up the world to plenty of fantastical horrors that could have been damaged by exposition. That’s not the case with this movie.
3. The Lighthouse
When it comes to psychological horrors, The Lighthouse is a must. It’s one of those movies that draws you in with the narrative, avoiding the explanations until the very end. You have to pay attention to fully appreciate the foreshadowing and the story.
Everything is told in the black-and-white pictures, giving you the feeling of a movie from decades ago. However, it’s just to set the tone of the time period, and it makes the movie feel like it’s someone narrating the story from a book.
4. The Village
M. Night Shyamalan has a way with horror that very few others do. He can tell a creepy story that leaves you needing more. He can do twists like nobody else. And sure, not all of those twists work, but some of them certainly do.
In The Village, the twist opens up that feeling of situational horror. Throughout the story, we’re sure there’s something supernatural going on, but it’s all about being afraid of something you don’t see or know. It’s certainly a psychological horror.
5. Fright Night
We finish with the movie from 1985. It’s not one of the slasher horrors that you probably expected. Instead, it’s all about Fright Night, starring Chris Sarandon and William Ragsdale.
This is one of those classic horror movies on Amazon that is packed with tropes but not in a glaringly horrible way. The tropes are in a fun way. It adds a little humor to a scary movie, which you sometimes need.
