Netflix Carmel: Who Killed Maria Marta? & Everything we know so far

Published by

Carmel Updates: In 2002, the murder of an Argentine social worker, María Marta García Belsunce, was initially thought to be dangerous after she fell into a bathtub and hit her head on a tap. However, a post-mortem examination revealed that María Marta had, in fact, been shot five times in the head.

The death of a social worker was a major issue in Argentine newspapers. Carlos Carrascosa, María Marta’s husband, and the recipient of his body was the main defendant, however, DNA analysis found that Carrascosa’s DNA did not match any of the bloodstains found at the scene.

Netflix’s new documentary, ‘Carmel: Who Killed Maria Marta?’, Will cover the massacre of Argentines in four episodes.

All episodes of ‘Carmel: Who Killed Mary Marta?’ will be released on Netflix on Thursday, November 5, at 12 am PST.

On October 27, 2002, Carlos Carrascosa arrived at his home in Carmel, a high-rise, closed community in Buenos Aires after watching a football match with his relatives. Carlos called paramedics and the family, saying he believed María Marta had hit her head with a large plank in the bathroom, and fell into a bathtub and drowned.

No one noticed the suspicion of María Marta’s death and even allowed the family to sign a pre-existing death certificate that would help simplify the funeral process. But María Marta’s adopted brother thought something was wrong and asked for an investigation. Prosecutor Diego Molina Pico arrived at the scene waking up but did not order an immediate autopsy, as it is a common accidental death procedure in Argentina.

A few weeks later, Molina Pico finally spoke to one of the paramedics who expressed some doubts about the idea of drowning. More than a month had passed since María Marta’s death when the autopsy was finally performed, and it turned out to be a shocking discovery: she had five gunshot wounds to the head and no one had noticed.

Molina Pico further accused García Belsunce’s family of deliberately hiding the murder and accused Carrascosa of killing his wife.

Netflix Carmel: Who Killed Maria Marta?

‘It is a complete task to investigate, with the participation of the characters in the case, this series will try to clarify, in four chapters of about 47 minutes each, the details of crime today are a mystery to all Argentines who have followed, for years, all other forms of case.
