Netflix Barbarians: Release date & Everything fans should know

Published by

Barbarians will retell the true story of the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest where German tribes were locked in a fierce fight with the Romans. The Netflix drama will be available to watch on the streaming service in just a few days’ time. Here’s everything you need to know about watching Barbarians.

Barbarians is about the brutal Roman Imperial campaign of Germania where the invading army launched a bloody invasion, killing many tribe members along the way.

In real life, the Roman legions and auxiliaries were led by Publius Quinctilius Varus. The Romans believed it was going to be another easy mission for them in tearing the tribes apart.

Little did they know though there is someone in this army who was determined to put a stop to Varus’ plans. Germanic Chieftain Arminius (played by Laurence Rupp) was educated in Roman military tactics.

While he is working for the Romans, he instead deciphers a plan to help the barbarians defeat them in battle. Arminius unites the Germanic tribes and gets them to strike before the Romans have a chance to attack.

Netflix Barbarians: Everything fans should know

This battle made history as the tribes were able to claim victory against three Roman legions against all odds. Barbarians will be available on Netflix from Friday, October 23.

So there isn’t too much longer left before the drama is ready to stream. This first season of Barbarians will be made up of six episodes.

The entirety of the series is going to be released in one go so subscribers can binge-watch the drama over the weekend. But to be able to watch Barbarians, you will need to be a Netflix subscriber.

Subscription plans start from £5.99 but sadly first-time customers no longer get a month’s free trial. This allows customers to try out the service, giving them access to the streaming service’s extensive library of content.

Netflix has scrapped its free trial both in the UK and America.

Barbarians is a German Original series with English subtitles for non-German speaking viewers. The series will talk of what happened during the battle from the perspective of the Germans which is rare according to

Director Rachel Eggebeen.

Speaking to DWDL, Eggebeen said: “We know the Roman perspective because writings have been handed down from the Romans.

“But not from the Germanic side.

Barbarians will be available to watch from Friday, October 23, on Netflix.
