Will Wonder Woman 1984 Delay the Release Date?

Published by

Wonder Woman 1984 Updates: The highly anticipated sequel to the 2017 film of the same name, Wonder Woman 1984 has already been postponed several times before by the studio. Initially, the studio decided to release the sequel on June 5, 2020.

It was later postponed to August and then to October and now we have a ‘not so final date’ of December 25. Other DC movies have also faced similar postponement. Films like The Batman have been pushed to 2022, Shazam! Fury of the Gods to 2023, and pulling Black Adam from the schedule entirely.

From the looks of it, it’s not sure whether Warner Bros will be releasing Wonder Woman 1984 any time soon. The situation is only worsening with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic. The opening of theatres for the release of this sequel is the major deciding factor for its release before Christmas.

As per the sources, Cineworld announced that all of its locations in the U.K., as well as every Regal cinema located in the U.S., would be closing once again.

What Director of Wonder Woman 1984 has to say?

This was a direct response to the dwindling ticket sales following the hasty release of Tenet and the recent announcement of No Time to Die being delayed until next spring. Another report states that the AMC Theatres chain could become bankrupt in the following six months.

Cineworld CEO Mooky Greidinge in an interview about the potential for re-opening with Wonder Woman 1984 on Christmas Day, said It is not at all surprising keeping in mind the prevailing conditions that Movie studios continue to shift and postpone their release dates on an almost weekly basis, with Sony Pictures delaying movies before WB tonight and Universal pushing some back last week.

This new release date of Wonder Woman 1984 hitting on Christmas is only possible if the pandemic doesn’t spread anymore. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that fall and winter months could potentially be a tough time for the USA and the world. With this said, it would be safe to assume that we could see another postpone announcement.
