Apple Watch Series 6 Blood Oxygen Monitoring, Sensors and How does it Work? Check Out

Published by

Apple Watch Series 6 Updates: Apple Inc released a series of smartwatches known as Apple Watch. The first watch of the series was launched in April 2015 and became one of the best selling devices by Apple. These watches can integrate with Apple devices and iOS. Apple watches provide facilities like wireless communications and health- tracking.

Apple Watch Series 6: Blood Oxygen Monitoring

The new Apple Watch Series 6 was released on 18 September 2020, with a pre-installed watchOS 7. This time there are some remarkable health-oriented features in the watch and one that is most acclaimed is blood oxygen monitoring features. The blood oxygen level tells us about the quantity of oxygen carried by our red blood cells or in a simple way it is used to determine how far we are.

However, this feature is not available for those under 18 years of age. If we take a look at a healthy person then we see that his or her blood oxygen level is between 95%-99%. Users who are concerned about their health would be thrilled because of such a feature in Apple Watch Series 6.

Blood Oxygen Monitor: Working

Apple Watch Series 6 has been redesigned with new blood oxygen measuring features. It uses an optical heart sensor to measure the level of oxygen in the blood of the user. The black crystal on the back of the watch produces some infrared light along with red and green LED lights. The blood vessels in our wrist reflect the rays which are measured by the photodiodes.

Then with the help of some algorithm, analysis of the collected information takes place. It then determines the color of our blood which is further used to tell the oxygen level in blood. If the blood is bright red in color then the amount of oxygen present in it is more while, if the blood is dark red then the blood has a low oxygen saturation.

Steps to use Blood Oxygen Monitor:

  1. Place the watch on your wrist in a comfortable snug.
  2. Open the desired app i. e, Blood Oxygen App
  3. Keep your wrist flat and position the watch so that it faces upwards
  4. Tap on “Start”
  5. The results can be received within 15 seconds

These health orientation features by Apple can not be used for medical purposes. Apple itself says so that they are not “that” precise. All in all Apple watches provide a general idea about one’s health condition but not in a strict medical way. If you want to read more such articles, stay tuned!
