Barkskins Episode 8 Recap

Melissande is very particular and strict in making sure that before Trepagny should out of the way of Mari anyhow before their wedding.  In this very process, she thinks and advises of marrying off Mari with their servant Sel and in that very process, Trepagny would give a piece of land to Sel so that after the wedlock they could live happily and comfortably there.

Sel also succumbs to the very fact that he as well is enchanted by Mari. Trepagny is later flabbergasted to notice how demanding Melissande is when she is expelled out of the balcony.

Trepagny later advances to the cottage where he meets Mari and they share some warm moments together. He is also reminded of the days when they spent time together in the barren land and in this plot we can very well see as to how much Trepagny cares about her. It was only the status of the society that had kept the pair away from one another.

Mari sits calm and tranquil beside Trepagny and Trepagny gets no idea as to what is going on in Mari’s mind. Later she hands him soup made by her. Trepagny drinks it all, conceiving no idea that it was poisoned. After drinking the adulterated soup Trepagny collapses in the entrance. This was an already set plan between Mari and Sel.

Barkskins Ending Explained

In the concluding part, we see that Mari gets out of her cottage, the next day as it was Melissande and Trepagny’s wedding. As soon as Melissande discovers that Trepagny is dead she begins to open his wedding ring from his fingers and started to move away, depicting clearly how barely she cared about him. Sel begins to perch Trepagny on the stable when it is suddenly realized that he is not dead and starts to breathe.

Mari hadn’t given him poison and dragged him in a manner so that he seems to be dead because she was sure about Melissande walking away.

In the next season, we will see Trepagny dealing with Melissande while Mari vanishes.
